PIT-UN 2022 Convening
Join us for the 2022 Public Interest Tech University Network (PIT-UN) Convening, hosted by City University of New York, on Oct. 28-29.
In these times of uncertainty and urgency, we are all called to action. Understanding technology and its implications is essential to creating a more just and equitable future. How do we imagine a future world that honors the wisdom of our ancestors alongside the next generation of computer scientists, information architects, engineers, data scientists, designers, artists, and activists?
The Public Interest Technology University Network (PIT-UN), a partnership that unites 48 colleges and universities, is building the growing field of public interest technology and fostering a new generation of civic-minded technologists focused on how the design and implementation of technology can best serve the public. Defining public interest technology requires centering voices historically excluded from important decision-making points in the development of technology.
The City University of New York (CUNY) is the largest public university in the world and the most racially and ethnically diverse university system in the country. CUNY is well placed to be a leading voice in building a national PIT ecosystem centered on racial and social justice, aligned with broader aims of the PIT University Network. Two of the 25 CUNY campuses will serve as sites for the Convening.
Day 1 will take place at the CUNY Graduate Center, in Manhattan. Day 2 will be led by College of Staten Island St. George at the Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden.
WHO ATTENDS THE CONVENING?
We will invite a broad spectrum of participants including Network Challenge grantees, PIT-UN institutional leaders and students, local, national, and international artists, scholars, and technologists, as well as local and national activists, activist groups, and community organizations.
